CIET-NCERT Conducts Workshop to Map Accessibility Features for Class 6 Textbooks
New Delhi: The Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET-NCERT) conducted a five-day workshop on Accessible Feature Mapping for Class 6 NCERT Textbooks from August 17 to 21, 2026.
The workshop was organised under the programme “Development of Energized Textbooks based on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) – Kitaab Ek, Padhe Anek.”
The initiative focused on strengthening accessibility and inclusivity in NCERT's digital and energized learning resources.
21 Experts Participate in Workshop
A total of 21 experts participated in the workshop and worked on identifying and mapping accessibility features across six Class 6 textbooks.
The textbooks covered during the workshop included:
- Malhar
- Curiosity
- Khel Yatra
- Deepakam
- Kaushal Bodh
- Poorvi – English
The exercise aimed to ensure that the textbooks are more accessible and learner-friendly for students with diverse learning needs.
Focus on Universal Design for Learning
The workshop forms part of the broader effort to develop UDL-based energized textbooks that can support equitable learning opportunities.
Universal Design for Learning focuses on creating learning resources and environments that can accommodate diverse learners and provide multiple ways to access and engage with educational content.
Through accessibility feature mapping, the initiative seeks to strengthen the usability of digital learning resources for a wider range of students.
CIET-NCERT Appreciates Experts' Contribution
Prof. Amarendra P. Behera, Joint Director, CIET-NCERT, appreciated the collective efforts and contributions of the experts involved in the workshop.
Prof. Bharti Kaushik, Programme Coordinator and Head, MPD, CIET, also expressed gratitude to the participating experts for their active involvement in the initiative.
Faculty members from the Department of Education in Science and Mathematics (DESS) and Department of Education in Languages (DEL), NCERT, also extended valuable support and collaboration during the workshop.
