Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut has taken a major step towards promoting digital literacy and technological awareness among students by introducing a new course titled 'AI for All'. The university administration has decided that from the upcoming academic session 2026-27, students studying in the first semester will have to study Artificial Intelligence as part of their curriculum. The main objective behind this decision is to create fundamental awareness about Artificial Intelligence among students and to prepare them for the future job market which is increasingly becoming dependent on AI-based technology.
According to the official press release issued by the university, this initiative has been taken in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes skill development and integration of modern technology with traditional education. The university believes that in the present time, knowledge of Artificial Intelligence is not just limited to computer science students but has become essential for students of all streams, including arts, science and commerce. Whether it is education, health, agriculture, business or media, AI is playing a significant role in every sector. Keeping this in mind, the university has designed this course in such a way that even students with no technical background can easily understand the basics of AI.
As per the notification, the implementation of this course will be done in two different categories. For the first category, which includes students admitted to BA, B.Sc and B.Com courses under the NEP system in all affiliated colleges of the university in the academic session 2026-27, the 'AI for All' course will be studied as a compulsory Skill Development Course. This course will carry three credits, which will be added to the student's overall credit score. The university has clarified that the teaching of this course will be conducted through online mode so that students from all colleges can get equal access to quality content and expert lectures. However, to maintain transparency and seriousness in evaluation, both internal and external examinations for this course will be conducted offline by the university itself. The examination pattern and syllabus for this course will soon be made available on the official website of the university.
For the second category, which includes all other undergraduate and postgraduate courses running in the university campus and its affiliated colleges, the university has kept this course as an optional subject. This means that first-semester students of courses other than BA, B.Sc and B.Com can study 'AI for All' as an additional extra subject if they wish. The university administration has said that this step has been taken to encourage students who are interested in learning about new technologies. Students who opt for this optional course and successfully pass the examination will be provided with a special certificate from the university. This certificate will mention that the student has completed basic training in Artificial Intelligence, which will be very helpful for them in their future career and higher studies. The university believes that this certificate will add value to the student's resume and will help them in getting better employment opportunities.
The university has fixed a nominal fee of Rs. 300 for the 'AI for All' course. This fee will be compulsory for all students who fall under the mandatory category as well as for those who opt for it as an optional subject. The university has directed that every student will have to deposit this fee of Rs. 300 along with their first-semester examination form. Without depositing this fee, the examination form of the students will not be accepted. The university has said that this fee has been kept very low so that no student faces financial difficulty in studying this important course. The amount collected will be used for the development of online content, maintenance of the digital platform and for conducting examinations.
In addition to this, the university has also given relief to those students who had appeared for the 'AI for All' examination along with their second-semester examination in June 2026 but could not pass. The university has announced that such students will be given another opportunity to clear the paper. These students will be able to appear for the 'AI for All' examination as a back paper along with the even semester examinations to be held in June 2027. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the interest of the students so that their academic year is not wasted and they can complete their course without any delay. The university has advised the concerned students to stay in touch with their respective colleges and the official website for further updates regarding the back paper examination.
Academicians and education experts have welcomed this decision of Chaudhary Charan Singh University. With the introduction of this course, Chaudhary Charan Singh University has become one of the few state universities in Uttar Pradesh to make AI education compulsory at the undergraduate level. This move is expected to benefit thousands of students studying in hundreds of affiliated colleges spread across Meerut, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Hapur and other districts under the jurisdiction of the university.
