- Japan Career Day 2026 gives BITS Pilani students direct access to Japanese companies for internships, careers and global technology opportunities
Pilani, September 11, 2026: Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani hosted Japan Career Day 2026 at its Pilani campus as part of the Global South–Japan Tech Talent Initiative (GS-JTI), a Japanese government project commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Government of Japan.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening technology and talent collaboration between Japan and countries of the Global South by creating opportunities for highly skilled students to explore international careers, internships and employment opportunities with Japanese companies.
For the second consecutive year, BITS Pilani was selected to participate in the initiative. The latest edition follows the strong response to the Japan Career Day organised at the Pilani campus in October 2025.
The 2026 programme brought together a delegation of approximately 30 representatives from Japan, including representatives from METI, programme secretariat Deloitte Tohmatsu Venture Support Co., Ltd., Tech Japan Inc., six Japanese companies and other government organisations.
Six Japanese Companies Participate in Japan Career Day
The participating Japanese companies included Ur AI Co. Ltd., SAKURUG Co. Ltd., Fermelanta, Inc., Directors Inc., QUINQUE Inc. and Satake Corporation.
The companies represented a diverse range of sectors, including:
- Artificial intelligence
- Digital transformation
- Biotechnology
- Consulting
- Branding
- Agricultural machinery
- Space technology
- Grain processing technologies
The participation gave BITS Pilani students an opportunity to understand the technological capabilities and work environments of Japanese organisations while exploring potential pathways for internships and employment.
Japanese Delegation Interacts With BITS Pilani Leadership and Students
During the visit, the Japanese delegation interacted with Prof. Sudhirkumar V. Barai, Director, BITS Pilani; Prof. NVM Rao, Dean, Administration; Col. Soumyabrata Chakraborthy; and Prof. Yoshiro Azuma, visiting faculty from Japan, Department of Physics, BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus, along with other faculty members.
Student teams presented and demonstrated their projects and innovations to the visiting delegation. The representatives also visited the Rakesh Kapoor Innovation Center before attending company presentations at the Main Auditorium.
The programme concluded with direct student-company interactions at the New Academic Block. Students used the opportunity to learn more about potential internship and career opportunities with the participating Japanese organisations.

Over 1,500 Students Participate
The Japan Career Day attracted participation from more than 1,500 students across programmes at BITS Pilani. More than 300 students expressed interest in internships and career opportunities with the participating Japanese companies.
The scale of participation reflects the growing interest among Indian students in international career opportunities, particularly in technology-intensive sectors.
For students, direct interaction with international companies can provide exposure to global workplace expectations, recruitment processes, industry requirements and potential career pathways beyond traditional domestic opportunities.
What Is the Global South–Japan Tech Talent Initiative?
The Global South–Japan Tech Talent Initiative (GS-JTI) is designed to promote the employment of highly skilled talent from Global South countries in Japanese companies.

The earlier programme also facilitated internship opportunities for Indian students. According to the information shared by BITS Pilani, 98 students from 22 universities were selected from more than 2,000 applicants to undertake internships with Japanese companies in India and Japan.
The continuation of the programme at BITS Pilani provides another avenue for students to connect with international employers and understand opportunities in Japan's technology and innovation ecosystem.
