7th International Conference on Islamic Arts & Architecture 2025 Inaugurated at Jamia Millia Islamia

Jamia Millia Islamia’s Department of Architecture inaugurated the 7th International Conference on Islamic Arts & Architecture (ICIAA 2025), featuring lectures, panel discussions, and a grand exhibition showcasing Islamic art, design, and architectural heritage.

New Delhi, November 13, 2025: The 7th International Conference on Islamic Arts & Architecture (ICIAA 2025), hosted by the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, Jamia Millia Islamia, commenced on November 11, 2025, aligning with National Education Day celebrations. The three-day conference brings together distinguished scholars, practitioners, academicians, and students to delve into the evolution, symbolism, and global relevance of Islamic art and architecture.

The event features scholarly lectures, panel discussions, and a meticulously curated exhibition aimed at highlighting the richness and cultural depth of Islamic artistic traditions across the world.

Exhibition ‘The Kaleidoscope’ Inaugurated

The highlight of the inaugural day was the opening of The Kaleidoscope, a Photography and Art Exhibition at the M.F. Husain Art Gallery. The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, JMI, and Dr. Fariduddin Farid Asr, Cultural Counsellor, Iran Cultural House, New Delhi, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prof. Qamar Irshad, Dean, Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, Prof. Taiyaba Munawer, Head of Department and Convenor of the Conference, as well as faculty members, delegates, and students.

Curated Display Reflecting Cultural Heritage

Curated by Dr. Mohd. Arshad Ameen with co-curation by Ar. Mohd. Rahil, the exhibition featured:

  • Photographs shared by the Iranian Embassy
  • Miniature models, books, and travel guides showcasing Iran’s architectural legacy
  • Islamic jaali-pattern façade artworks painted by students
  • A wide collection of student-made paintings in watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media
  • A vibrant mosaic mural of glass paintings crafted during the “Stained Palette” workshop on October 31, 2025, commemorating JMI’s 105th Foundation Day
  • Photographs capturing light, shadow, geometry, and perspectives in Islamic architecture worldwide
  • Striking large-canvas calligraphy artworks

The exhibition offered an immersive visual journey into the motifs, traditions, and architectural philosophies rooted in Islamic culture.

Dignitaries Praise Creative Excellence

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Fariduddin Farid Asr commended the creative presentations, emphasizing the enduring significance of aesthetics in architecture and the responsibility to sustain Islamic architectural heritage for generations to come.

Prof. Rizvi congratulated the organizing committee for the successful curation and praised the exhibition’s strong alignment with the conference theme.

Acknowledgement and Closing

At the end of the inaugural ceremony, Prof. Taiyaba Munawer invited the curator to deliver the Vote of Thanks.
Dr. Mohd. Arshad Ameen addressed the audience with an eloquent Urdu speech, acknowledging the month-long collaborative efforts of students and faculty that contributed to the event's success.

The day concluded with the presentation of saplings as mementos to the guests and the unveiling of the exhibition brochure, designed by Ar. Mohd. Rahil.
