₹1 Lakh Crore Boost for AI & Tech: What Govt’s Big Plan Means for Students

New Delhi: The Government of India has announced a major push toward Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies, a move that could open significant opportunities for students across the country. In a statement shared in Parliament, the government outlined several initiatives focused on research, innovation, and skill development, aimed at preparing young learners for future careers in high-demand sectors.

One of the biggest highlights is the Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme, with an outlay of ₹1 lakh crore. For students, this means increased opportunities in research internships, startup ecosystems, and industry-linked projects, especially in fields like AI, robotics, biotechnology, and space technology. The scheme encourages collaboration between industry and academia, which can directly benefit students through hands-on learning and innovation exposure.

The government is also expanding learning opportunities through the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS). Under this mission, 25 Technology Innovation Hubs have been set up where students can engage in advanced research areas such as AI, cybersecurity, IoT, and quantum technologies. Initiatives like Bharat-Gen, which focuses on building AI models in Indian languages, further open pathways for students interested in cutting-edge AI development.

Additionally, the IndiaAI Mission, backed by over ₹10,000 crore, focuses heavily on skilling and career readiness. It aims to improve access to computing infrastructure, provide training programmes, support student startups, and build a strong digital ecosystem. For students, this means better access to AI tools, datasets, and learning platforms, helping them stay competitive in a technology-driven job market.

Experts believe these initiatives will play a key role in shaping a future-ready workforce, where students are not just degree holders but skilled professionals ready for global opportunities. With AI and deep-tech sectors expanding rapidly, staying updated with such government programmes can help students make informed career choices and take advantage of emerging opportunities early on.
