New Delhi. : IGNOU's School of Computer & Information Sciences has launched BCA & MCA Programmes through Online Mode continuing to add more Programmes as per the New Education Policy 2020 mandate to increase Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) providing access, equity and inclusiveness at affordable price points ensuring Quality.

Prof. Nageshwar Rao, VC IGNOU along with the Guests of Honour, namely,  Prof. P.V.G.D. Prasad Reddy, VC, Andhra University and Prof. G. Kannabiran, Director , NIT , Trichy launched the programmes virtually. Pro-VCs Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Prof. Satyakam, and Prof. R.P Das and other officials of the University were also present at the launch.

Welcoming the Chief Guests, IGNOU Vice-Chancellor and other distinguished participants Prof. P.V. Suresh. Director , SOCIS said that this may provide a flip to enrollment numbers in these programmes. He thanked the guests for their time and also extended his gratitude to Prof. Rao, VC IGNOU for his support and encouragement.

Prof. P.V.G.D. Prasad Reddy, VC Andhra University in his address welcomed the introduction of Online Programmes by IGNOU and said that this would help in creating an ecosystem in the country for Quality Online Higher Education and IGNOU's expertise in ODL mode would come handy in reaching the masses irrespective of the geographies.

Prof. G. Kannabiran, Director NIT Trichy also complimented the School of Computer & Information Sciences for launching of these programs through Online and added that it would be beneficial if specialization is also given in MCA through elective subjects in AI, ML, Cyber Security etc., for better employment opportunities to the learners.

Prof. Uma Kanjilal, PVC in her address talked about the four quadrant approach covering all the aspects of Online pedagogy which ensures quality outcome for the learners, 

Prof. Nageshwar Rao, VC IGNOU giving presidential address said that NEP 2020 lays stress on quality education with access and equity and with new UGC Guidelines for Online and ODL Education, IGNOU has been ensuring higher education to all through both Distance and Online modes. Sharing the future roadmap of the University, Prof. Rao said that IGNOU would be launching Online Programmes with vocational components that give learners practical knowledge as well. 

The basic objective of the programme is to open a channel of admission for computing courses for students, who have done the 10+2 and are interested in taking computing/IT as a career. After acquiring the Bachelor’s Degree (BCAOL) at IGNOU, are both employement as well as educational opportunities to students. 

Programme Coordinators Dr. Akshay Kumar (MCA) and Dr. M.P. Mishra (BCA) shared the programme details and also touched upon the job opportunities after pursuing the programmes successfully. They also mentioned the noted alumni who have been learners of these programmes in ODL Mode ealier.

The broad objective of the MCA programme is to prepare graduate students for productive careers in software industry and academia by providing an outstanding environment for teaching and research in the core and emerging areas of the discipline. The programme’s thrust is on giving the students thorough and sound background in theoretical and application-oriented courses relevant to the latest computer software development. The programme emphasizes the application of software technology to solve mathematical, computing, communications / networking and commercial problems.

This Master’s Degree Programme has been designed with a semester approach in mind. The first year courses are aimed at theoretical knowledge and practical skills development in core computers science subjects. The second year is more focused on advanced courses providing conceptual framework and the project work.
