Over 52 Lakh Students to Appear for UP Board Exams 2026, Registrations Dip by Over Two Lakh

Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has announced that 52,30,297 students have registered for the UP Board High School and Intermediate Examinations 2026, reaffirming its status as Asia’s largest school examination system.

Despite the massive scale, this year’s registration figures have seen a decline of more than two lakh students compared to last year’s numbers, according to official data released by the board.

For the 2025–26 academic session, a total of 1,01,76,431 students have enrolled across Classes 9 to 12 under the UP Board.

Class-Wise Registration Data

The detailed class-wise registration statistics show a balanced gender distribution across the state’s schools:

  • Class 9: 14,11,298 boys and 13,25,911 girls
  • Class 10 (High School): 14,38,682 boys and 13,12,263 girls
  • Class 11: 11,29,007 boys and 10,79,918 girls
  • Class 12 (Intermediate): 13,03,012 boys and 11,76,340 girls

This data highlights consistent participation of girls across all classes, maintaining a near gender parity in enrolments across Uttar Pradesh.

Sharp Decline in Intermediate Enrolments

The most notable drop has been observed in Class 12 registrations, which fell from 27,05,009 students last year to 24,79,352 this year — a decline of 2,25,657 candidates.

Education analysts suggest that the decrease may be due to increasing vocational course enrolments, migration to central and private boards, or shifts toward alternative learning streams such as skill-based programs.

High School Enrolments See Slight Increase

While intermediate registrations have dropped, Class 10 enrolments have marginally increased.
A total of 27,50,945 students will appear for the high school (Class 10) examination in 2026 — up by 18,780 from the previous year.

As per UPMSP data:

  • Class 9: 27,37,209 students registered
  • Class 11: 22,08,925 students registered
  • Class 12: 24,79,352 students registered

These numbers indicate stable participation at the secondary level, reflecting continued trust in the state board’s examination system.

Figures Subject to Revision

UP Board Secretary Bhagwati Singh confirmed that the current statistics are provisional and may undergo slight revisions once corrections and verifications are completed.

“After the revision process, there may be a small change in the total number of students. The final count and the list of examination centres will be published once all adjustments are finalized,” Singh stated.

The final data, including the total number of exam centres, is expected soon. The UP Board assured that the upcoming examinations will be conducted with full transparency and strict adherence to guidelines across all districts.

Uttar Pradesh Board: The Largest in Asia

With more than 52 lakh students appearing and over 1 crore enrolled across secondary and higher secondary levels, the UP Board remains the largest school examination board in Asia. The consistent participation underscores the board’s extensive reach and the scale of Uttar Pradesh’s public education network.
