Students Have Many Options For Professional Courses After 12th

Professional courses are the ones which provide a student with options to develop a skill around a particular profession and help themselves get better within the industry. These courses include a multitude of choices from Fashion Designing to Mass Communication. Professional courses differ from the courses offered for main streams such as Science, Commerce and Humanity. A student needs to pass the 10th or 12th standard with a minimum or 40 to 50% to be considered eligible for any professional courses.

There are about 24 professional courses currently available for students.These courses are provided in various colleges at Diploma, Vocational and even Degree level. Passing these courses enables a student to join the path of the particular profession and use the output of their education in the course. Almost none of them have entrance exams to join the courses, while a few have state/nation-wide exams conducted annually.

Chartered Accountancy-  The Chartered Accountancy course is one of the most-sought after, by 12th Grade commerce stream graduates. A chartered accountant(CA)gives financial advice, audits accounts and provides trustworthy information about financial records.The course has a national level pen-and-paper exam named Chartered Accountancy Common Proficiency Test(CA-CPT) conducted once a year by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Indiaduring time spam of March-May.

Mass Communication- Mass communication course opens many doors for graduates doing the professional course since it does not focus on exactly one skill as such and is highly inclusive. Journalism and mass communication graduates also find roles as public relations managers, corporate communications executives, and jobs in the media field. There are no state/National-level exams to enter the course but there may be institute-level one-on-one interviews conducted occasionally.

Business Administration- Course of Bachelors in Business Administration is a very popular course since the graduates are well-educated in the topic of management and office. BBA is a three-year professional undergraduate course in Business Management. The course is open to students from all three streams i.e., Science, Arts and Commerce. The BBA course offers knowledge and training in management and leadership skills to prepare them for managerial roles and entrepreneurship.There are state and national level exams such as CUET, JIPMAT, NPAT and IIM IPM Aptitude Test.

Hotel Management- Hotel management can open a vast number of other opportunities in the industry. It is a three-year course.The basic eligibility criteria to take up Hotel Management course is to be an Intermediate(Grade 12) student. Though in some private colleges providing the course, the criteria mentions that the student has to be 22 years old( can be intermediate pass/ fail, as of 2022). As for admission, most colleges in India providing exclusive training in Hotel Management require the students to enter through entrance exams that are conducted in Nation-wide, State-wide and Institute-oriented.

Interior Designing- An interior designer is someone who plans, researches, coordinates, and manages such enhancement projects.The criteria for Interior Designing(a one-to-two year course) includes that the study has passed their 12th grade with 60% marks or above. AAC CET is the common entrance exam to enter the course in Maharashtra Applied Arts and Crafts College. There are other institute- based entrance exams too.
Computer Application- Computer Application(BCA) is a course based on computer knowledge, application and software based. There are institute-level aptitude based exams(optional) and students from any stream in their 12th standard can apply for this course. It is a 3-year undergraduate course.

Law- Corporate law, international law, Intellectual Property Rights protection, and some other legal fields hold great promise of superb careers.With an increasing number of foreign companies opening operations in India, the law is one of the best courses a student can select.There are two options for students- they can either join a 5-year integrated course or join LLB after a UG degree in arts, sciences or commerce. To join a national college, the applicant would be required to write the CLAT exam and in some cases, institute-level entrance exams are conducted.

Civil Services- Civil Services include all state and central government offices and offer jobs not only in better known sectors like the IAS (Indian Administrative Service), IFS (Indian Foreign Service)and IPS (Indian Police Service) but also select departments of the Indian Railways, Revenue Service, Postal Service, Audits and more such. The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a national competitive examination in India conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to higher Civil Services of the Government of India.

Travel and Tourism- Upon successfully completing a travel and tourism course, you qualify to work for an airline, foreign and domestic tour operator, work as a travel arranger at government departments, and get job offers from Indian Railways and state road transport corporations. The eligibility criteria is 12th standard pass and there are no entrance exams to join the course as such. It is a three-year course.

Bakery and Confectionery- A part of the hospitality industry, in a Bakery and Confectionery course aspirants are not only educated about the art of baking and confectionery but are also taught creativity and communication skills.The admission to courses are done based purely on merit.

Architecture- BArch (Bachelor of Architecture) is an undergraduate degree in the field of architecture. This five-year full-time programme is a blend of theoretical and practical knowledge for students to learn the art of planning, designing and constructing physical structures of various kinds. From ideating to mapping and overseeing the construction, a qualified architect is involved at every stage of any construction project. It is a five-year undergraduate course with entrance exams- NATA, AAT and JEE Main Paper 2.

Agriculturist- A professional course as an agriculturist isn't all about growing food crops. It is also about finding what kinds of seeds can be used for a better harvest, creating varieties of fertilizers, insecticides, and pesticides, developing irrigation systems, and a lot more. Agriculturists also find jobs with the Indian and state governments as well as MNCs that work in this sector. There are no entrance exams to join the course.

Pharmacy- A professional course in Pharmacy can give you an amazing career at pharmaceutical companies, state-run and private hospitals, and healthcare providers.A qualified pharmacist easily gets a license to open a medical store and launch their own business.The eligibility criteria is that- the student has passed SSC (50% or more for Diploma), HSC (75% or more for Bachelor). The entrance exams are either nil or at an institute-level.

Visual Communication- B.Sc Visual Communication (‘Viscom’) is an undergraduate degree course offered in the field of mass communication. Visual communication is a medium to transmit ideas and information using imagery and symbols. This 3-year Bachelor’s degree can be pursued after completing HSC or equivalent from a recognized board. There are institute-level entrance exams conducted in certain cases..

Physical Education-A college-level course in physical education is a basis of the understanding of the physical as well as mental well-being and fitness of a person. The B.P.Ed course offers a good career choice because the global sports industry is growing at a rapid pace at a worth of USD 620 Billion. Some colleges admit students to the course of physical education through simple merit-based selection while some may handpick students through entrance exams that are conducted. the student has to have qualified their 12th (Intermediate) Grade with a minimum of 50% marks. The course duration is 3-4 years and can be pursued by those who have completed their graduation in any relevant field.

Digital Marketing- Digital marketing involves learning several processes that would popularize a website, product, or service using the Internet as the channel. Anyone with a secondary or higher secondary qualification can enroll in this professional course. There's no age limit too. There are no entrance exams.

Photography- Photography is a vocational course which lays emphasis on theory, with plenty of hands-on training. To excel in the field of Photography, aspirants will have to devote hours in practical work. A candidate who has passed 10+2 Board examination is eligible for a diploma course, which is usually a one-year course. There are no entrance exams.

Nursing- Nursing courses are areas of studies that instruct students on how to care for sick, disabled and dying patients, and how to prevent illness and promote health. The criteria for a student to opt for a nursing course in India, he/she must have passed Standard 12 with “Biology” as a compulsory subject. Most nursing colleges in India requires students to appear in entrance exams which could be institute-level, state or even national level.

Animations and Multimedia- Animations and multimedia are an integral part of the advertising, informatics, and entertainment industry. HSC or equivalent (50% or higher) is the criteria to join a course for animation and multimedia. AAC-CET is one the entrance exams available for the course.

Fashion Designing- Fashion designing is one of the toughest courses in India. It involves a lot of creativity. You also need to be aware of the latest fashion trends and designs worldwide. There's severe competition since some of the largest fashion labels of the world are entering India rapidly to cash in on this booming market.HSC or equivalent (50% or higher) is the criteria to join a course for fashion designing. AAC-CET is one the entrance exams available for the course.

Civilian Navy- Civilian navy consists of two components: passenger transport and freight carriage. Passenger transport nowadays is mainly in the form of international cruises. Freight transport means moving almost anything from pins and needles to complex machinery, weaponry, and hazardous material from one place to another.Both these components of the civilian navy offer excellent career opportunities.There are professional courses to join the merchant navy that moves cargo between countries. Minimum SSC (Score 50% or more) is the basic criteria to join the course. Entrance exams are conducted based on circumstances.

Web Designing- A website is a reflection of an individual or a company's personality and corporate culture. Hence people and businesses lay special emphasis on how their website appears. This is the job of a web designer.  The student has to have passed SSC(no minimum score) and there are often no entrance exams.
