Schools shut in Delhi, Uttarakhand and Punjab due to heavy rainfall

In Delhi, 10 schools have been shut in Civil Lines and 7 in Shahadra, online classes will be held for these schools.

NEW DELHI :- The continuing flood-like situation has forced several schools in Delhi to shut today. These schools include 10 schools in Civil Lines and seven in Shahadra. Government and private schools in inundated areas have been asked to shut.

“Owing to a flood-like situation in Delhi, MCD’s Education Department has decided to close 10 schools in low-lying areas of the Civil Lines Zone, six schools in Shahadra (South) Zone and one school in Shahadra (North) Zone tomorrow. Online classes will be held for students of these schools,” the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said in a statement.

The Yamuna River has breached its own all-time record as the water rose to 207.83 metres.

Meanwhile, several district administrations in Uttarakhand including Chamoli have also declared a holiday for schools today in view of the IMD’s forecast of incessant rains.

Government, private and aided schools across Punjab are also closed till July 16. State education minister, Harjot Singh Bains made the announcement via Twitter.

Incessant rains, flash floods in some areas and flood-like situation in others continue to batter several parts of north India including Delhi-NCR, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.  Schools were closed.
