New Delhi. ; The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has launched a series of free online Physics courses for Class 12 students under the government’s SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active–Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) initiative. These Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are designed to make high-quality science education accessible to learners across India.
Developed by NCERT experts, the courses align closely with the official Class 12 Physics syllabus and integrate interactive digital tools to simplify complex scientific concepts through visual and experiential learning.
Comprehensive Coverage of the Class 12 Physics Syllabus
The new modules are divided into two major course series covering essential areas of Physics:
1. First Series:
- Electrostatics
- Current Electricity
- Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism
- Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Current
- Electromagnetic Waves
Through these topics, students can explore the principles of electrical charges, fields, potentials, and understand the working of resistors, capacitors, and inductors in circuits.
2. Second Series:
Comprising 43 detailed modules, this series includes:
- Ray Optics and Wave Optics
- Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter
- Atoms and Nuclei
- Semiconductors and Electronic Devices
- Communication Systems
These modules bridge fundamental and advanced Physics concepts—covering diffraction, quantum mechanics, and semiconductor electronics in a learner-friendly way.
Interactive and Engaging Digital Learning
Each course combines video lectures, e-texts, animations, self-assessment exercises, and assignments, allowing students to learn at their own pace while tracking progress. The platform also offers discussion forums for peer interaction and expert guidance.
According to NCERT, the primary objective is to enhance conceptual clarity and nurture a scientific mindset among learners using engaging multimedia and real-world examples.
Free Registration and Certification
All SWAYAM courses are free to access, with an option to earn certificates upon successful completion of assessments. Students can register through the SWAYAM portal or via the mobile app, select their preferred course, and begin learning immediately.
As the national coordinator for school-level MOOCs (Classes 9–12), NCERT aims to bridge the digital divide, ensuring that even students in rural or remote areas can benefit from expert-led Physics education.
