New Delhi: Mass communication is an important medium of dispersing information and spreading awareness among a large number of people. The term “Mass Communication” is not limited to only journalism but it spreads its branches to various other media fields like news gathering and news reporting, event management, film direction and production, public relations, corporate communication, advertising, etc. Mass communication course prepares students for various job profiles that come in the field. In recent years, media and mass communication have evolved into a partially interactive concept that touches and affects almost every aspect of human life.
Mass communication courses are quite diverse and they rope in all the important components of the media. The eligibility criteria to get admitted to one among the plethora of mass communication courses is that the student is required to have passed 12th grade in a recognized board of education with a 45-50% score. As for admission, entrance exams may/may not be conducted depending on the institute. There are no state/national level entrance exams as such for entering the course.
The private college known across India to be the best in the journalism field is the Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media(Bangalore). Though the fee ranges from 4 lakhs and above, the college guarantees good exposure and the ability to display talent. Other private colleges providing a few of the best courses for mass communication are Symbiosis Institute Of Media And Communication( Pune), Christ College (Bangalore), and School of Communication(Manipal).
Government colleges providing the best mass communication courses are Delhi college of arts and Commerce(New Delhi), Kamala Nehru College(New Delhi), Madras Christian College(Chennai), Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University(New Delhi), Andhra University(Visakhapatnam) and Dr. B.R.Ambedkar University(Srikakulam). The fee ranges from 1 Lakh-3.2 Lakh for all three years together.
