JMI Research Scholar gets Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF)

The fellowship has been awarded to Mr. Salman Khan of the Department of Biotechnology.

New Delhi: Mr. Salman Khan, a Ph.D. scholar in the Department of Biotechnology, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), has been awarded the Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF) for January 2023 cycle. Mr. Khan is working to understand the role of microRNA in inflammation and sepsis-induced acute lung injury under the supervision of Dr. Syed Mansoor Ali.

As per the official release, Mr. Khan would be getting a fellowship of Rs 70,000 for the first two years, Rs 75,000 for the third year, and Rs.80, 000 for the fourth and fifth year. Apart from this,
each student would also be getting a research grant of Rs. 2 Lakhs per year, which
amounts to a total of Rs 10 Lakhs for five years, under PMRF.

The PMRF was introduced in the 2018-19 Budget. The tenure of the fellowship will be till the end of the 4th year of Ph.D. for students from integrated courses and till the end of the 5th year of Ph.D. for B.Tech. (or equivalent) students.
