JMI observes Anti Ragging Week

She urged us to embrace and applaud each other’s talents, ideas, thoughts and creativity. At the end of the event she announced that all the posters will be displayed on the notice boards of the department.

New Delhi :- Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) observed Anti-Ragging Week from August 12-18, 2023. The India Arab Culture Centre organized a competition for M.A. students wherein they were tasked with creating anti-ragging posters. These posters were exhibited on the premises of the centre’s library. Furthermore, an interactive program was organized on August 17, 2023 which was intended to engage both students and faculty members of the centre to promote Anti-Ragging Week.

The purpose behind organizing the Anti-Ragging program was to create awareness about the menace of ragging among students. The program began with a welcome address by the Hon. Director of the Centre, Prof. Nasir Raza Khan. He emphasized the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for all the students and stressed the need to prevent ragging. Prof. Khan encouraged all students to have friendly and informative conversations with their seniors, to learn more about the centre and its workings, and to help break the ice between the seniors and the freshmen.

He also said that the university is committed to provide supportive environment for all its students to prevent ragging. The University has a strong anti-ragging policy on campus which prohibits all forms of ragging and provides strict punishment for those who indulge in it. The programme concluded with a pledge by students to upholds the anti-ragging policy of the university.

The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management (DTHM), Faculty of Management Studies, JMI  celebrated Anti- Ragging Day on 17th August 2023. The programme was organized with the goal of preventing ragging and aware students about the punishments related to ragging as per guidelines issued by the Supreme Court and UGC. In consonance with this DTHM, JMI organised a range of activities such as Pledge taking against ragging, Poster making competition, Slogan Writing competition, and Nukkad Natak. The Head of the Department, Prof Sarah Hussain in her opening remarks addressed the students motivating them to not indulge in any wrong doings and be hospitable to the newly admitted students.

The Department of Social Work, JMI also organized poster-making and slogan writing events to observe Anti-Ragging Day. Students crafted meaningful slogans and designed eye-catching anti-ragging posters. The efforts of the students symbolized their zeal towards creating a safe and secure environment where knowledge is embraced with freedom, liberty and dignity. Students were given two hours to make posters and write slogans. The competition’s highlight was the enlightening message from Head of the Department, Prof. Neelam Sukhramani, who reminded that classmates aren’t competitors, but source of support. She urged us to embrace and applaud each other’s talents, ideas, thoughts and creativity. At the end of the event she announced that all the posters will be displayed on the notice boards of the department.
