JMI celebrates Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav

The engaging activities, insightful competitions, and cultural performances made it a memorable event for students, staff, and faculty members alike.

New Delhi :- Students and staff of the Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) celebrated Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav today with great enthusiasm. The program was  organized under able guidance of Dean Faculty of Dentistry, Prof (Dr) Keya Sircar with her team, Dr.Babita Meena and Dr.Shahnaz.

The event aimed to showcase the diversity of languages within the faculty and highlight the use of different languages in the field of dentistry. The event commenced at 11:00 AM in the Patient’s waiting area of the dental college with an introduction to Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav, followed by a Nukkad Natak titled ‘Disproving Dental Myths’ presented by the intern batch of 2019, focused on promoting dental awareness. The skit concluded with a powerful message to general public underscoring the crucial role of dentists in maintaining oral health.

A poster making display activity followed in the presence of the Dean, Prof. (Dr.) Keya Sircar, and a judging panel consisting of esteemed faculty members. Sixteen creative posters in diverse languages, including Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Malayali, Rajasthani, Odiya, and Manipuri, were displayed and evaluated, showcasing the importance of oral health in various linguistic contexts.

The library hall hosted a display of reels from the reel-making competition. Ten reels were presented, depicting the importance of overall oral health, the significance of sign language in clinics, awareness about oral cancer, and the implementation of local languages in dental and medical colleges. The cultural diversity of the faculty was celebrated through musical performances, Students contributed to the cultural richness with renditions of their own cultural songs.

The penultimate event featured a speech by Dean Prof. (Dr.) Keya Sircar, acknowledging the cultural diversity within the faculty and emphasizing the importance of events like Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav.

The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and medals to the deserving participants. The Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav celebration at the Faculty of Dentistry was a resounding success, promoting cultural diversity and linguistic richness within the field of dentistry.

The Government of India has proposed to celebrate the birthday of renowned Tamil poet and freedom fighter Mahakavi Chinnaswami Subramania Bharati as Bharatiya Bhasha Divas (11 December). The Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav, which started on 28th September 2023 will run for 75 days and will culminate on 11th December 2023. During this, various events related to Bharatiya languages will be held in schools and higher education institutions.
