IIT Madras Incubated Start up Plenome Raises ₹6.5 Crore in Seed Funding, Eyes Global Expansion

Founded by Bhatnagar Awardee Prof. Prabhu Rajagopal, Plenome Develops Blockchain-AI Solutions for Healthcare, Voting, and Secure Data Management

Chennai: Plenome Technologies, a cutting-edge Blockchain and AI solutions start-up incubated at IIT Madras, has raised ₹6.5 crore in seed funding from a consortium of Indian and international investors. The funding marks a major step toward the company’s goal of global expansion in the critical domains of healthcare, digital governance, and secure data transfer.

Founded by Prof. Prabhu Rajagopal, a Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awardee and Professor at IIT Madras, Plenome focuses on secure, scalable digital applications in sensitive sectors such as organ donation, medical data management, and remote voting systems.

The round was led by Ovington Capital Partners (Luxembourg), with participation from AADI (UAE), and veteran Indian investor Mr. Manish Gandhi. The funding will help scale Plenome’s existing platforms, including:

  • BlockTrack ‘OraganEase’ – a Blockchain-based system for managing organ donation records, now under trial with a South Indian state’s transplant authority.

  • BlockVote – a pay-per-use Blockchain voting system successfully deployed for IIT Madras Student Elections, with plans for broader organizational use.

  • Ashwin – a multilingual AI-powered platform for structured healthcare data capture and insight generation, undergoing trials in dental health and expanding into eye care and fertility.

Prof. Rajagopal said, “Our goal is to empower healthcare delivery and digital governance with robust, privacy-first technology. This funding validates our vision and will enable us to expand globally while continuing to serve grassroots healthcare systems.”

Co-founders Mr. Vijayaraja Rathinasamy (an embedded systems expert and IIT Madras MS student) and Mr. Anirudh Varna (a blockchain expert and IITM graduate) emphasized the start-up’s mission to create inclusive, impact-driven technology. “We are decentralizing access and placing digital control directly into people’s hands,” said Varna.

Unique Technology Backbone

Plenome’s patent-protected architecture allows secure storage, retrieval, and management of sensitive data across institutions and borders. Its integration of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) with AI-driven analytics makes it one of the few firms globally offering this dual-layered trust and intelligence infrastructure.

According to Dr. Tamaswati Ghosh, CEO of IIT Madras Incubation Cell, “Plenome is among the most promising deep-tech start-ups in our ecosystem. Their work in Blockchain-backed healthcare and voting is gaining international traction, and this fundraise will help them scale impact significantly.”

Investor Endorsements

  • Mr. Marco Palacino, Ovington Capital: “Plenome is uniquely positioned to redefine digital trust infrastructure. We are proud to support their cross-border growth and mission.”

  • Mr. Manish Gandhi: “With security and privacy at its core, Plenome’s tech addresses urgent needs in health and governance. It’s a team that blends research depth with execution.”

  • Mr. K. Ramasubramanian, AADI: “Plenome is solving real-world challenges with visionary Blockchain-AI applications. Their impact potential is immense.”

Plenome’s innovations are now being evaluated for deployment at national and international levels, with particular interest from healthcare chains and civic governance bodies.
