The last dates to apply for the IIT Madras Zanzibar campus, which is the first ever foreign campus to be established by an IIT, are 15th April 2024 for the BS program and 15th March 2024 for the MTech program
CHENNAI, February 2024: IIT Madras Zanzibar has called for applications for its second batch of students for the academic year 2024-25. The two programs accepting applications are - B.S. in Data Science and AI & M.Tech in Data Science and AI.
Due to overwhelming enthusiasm from the student community in India and abroad, the Institute is considering an increase in the number of seats for both programs. To make the teaching-learning experience substantive and aligned with the needs of the market, industry collaboration and exchange programs are being assiduously explored. In 2023, IIT Madras became the first IIT to establish a full-fledged campus in a foreign country.
The last date to apply for the BS program is 15th April 2024. The screening test will be held on 9th June 2024 (2 pm to 5 pm IST and 11.30 am to 2.30 pm East African Time). The last date to apply for the MTech program is 15th March 2024.

The Institution has also signalled its intent to expand by adding new test centres to cater to the aspirations of students from different parts of the world. The online screening tests will be conducted in 19 international centres spread across various regions in the African continent as well as in the Middle East and South Asia. The number of domestic centres too has been increased to 19. It is believed that more options in terms of test centres will make the test accessible to students.
Since its launch in 2023, the Zanzibar campus has not only attracted students from India and Africa but has also created a buzz among engineering aspirants across the globe. The Institute aims to make an impact in the educational landscape of the region and also bring young minds from different parts of the world together in their quest for skill-based education.
ADMISSION PROCESS
Admission to these programs is a comprehensive three-stage process. All applications are examined not just for minimum educational qualification but also to identify the candidates’ co-curricular and extra-curricular credentials. These supplementary skills carry a weightage of 10 per cent and contribute to the 1st stage of the selection process.
The second stage, which is a screening test (IITMZST), evaluates the candidates’ aptitude across various subjects and carries 60 per cent weightage. Shortlisted candidates based on stage 1 and 2 are called for interview which constitutes the third stage of the process carrying a weightage of 30 per cent.
The BS Program syllabus for the test covers English and Comprehension, Analytical Ability, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. The maximum mark for screening test is 60.
The screening test for the M.Tech Program will be held on 31st March 2024 (2 pm to 5 pm Indian time and 11.30 am to 2.30 pm East African Time). The syllabus for the test covers Technical Aptitude and General Aptitude. The maximum mark for the screening test is 60. Successful candidates will be called for an interview.
