IGNOU observes Vigilance Awareness Week; takes Integrity Pledge
New Delhi. : To commemorate the Vigilance Awareness Week starting from 26th October, 2021, IGNOU employees committed themselves to working, following the ethical code of conduct in work and personal life. Prof. Jaideep Sharma, CVO, Vigilance Cell, gave a brief introduction of the programme and informed that the week is observed every year coinciding with the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel which falls on 31st October. This year, Vigilance Awareness Week was observed from 26th October, 2021 to 1st November, 2021 with the theme “Independent India@75:Self Reliance with Integrity”.
The pledge was administered by Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU, in a virtual ceremony to all the employees of the University. He said that corruption is a major obstacle in economic, political and social progress of a country. He emphasized the need for maintenance of the highest level of integrity, honesty, transparency and efforts to provide best services to the learners at all stages starting from admission to counseling and evaluation.
Prof. R.S. Yadav, Professor Emeritus, Jain Vishwa Bharti Institute, Ladnun, Rajasthan was the guest of the programme and spoke on the topic Academic Integrity in the University System: Towards Self Reliant Higher Education. He spoke at length on the topic introducing the concept and need for academic integrity. Later he also dealt on how to develop academic integrity in academics and the issues that need to be resolved.
Observance of the Vigilance Awareness Week every year is part of the multi-pronged approach of the Central Vigilance Commission. We all need to work in tandem to eradicate the menace of corruption from our lives. The government, the citizens, all need to do their bit to get rid of corruption from all walks of life from our country. To achieve this all citizens need to be vigilant and commit themselves to highest standards of honesty and integrity at all times to support the fight against corruption.
