IGNOU launches MA in Journalism and Mass Communication (MAJMC) through Online mode

 

New Delhi. : Indira Gandhi National Open University has launched MA in Journalism and Mass Communication programme online from the January 2022 admission cycle. The international launch event was organised on January 14th 2022. The MAJMC programme is made available to International students also.

Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU launched the online MAJMC programme in the presence of eminent media academicians. In the inaugural address, Vice-Chancellor stated that the quality of journalism education from IGNOU has provided equal opportunities for national and international students. MAJMC Online programme is futuristic and encompasses all the core areas of journalism and mass communication. Apart from English, University will launch MAJMC in regional languages such as Hindi and other languages. 

Prof. M S Parmar, Former Vice-Chancellor, Kushabhau Thakre Journalism and Mass Communication University, Chattisgarh, addressed that MAJMC Online is a quality media education programme; importantly, it gains additional weightage during the pandemic period. 

Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi, Director-General of IIMC, mentioned that IGNOU has taken an important initiative at the right time to launch an online MAJMC programme, and other educational institutions will follow suit the IGNOU. He stressed the need for this programme in the regional languages.

Prof. K G Suresh appreciated the University for taking revolutionary steps in online education and, more importantly, its affordability. He stated that this programme would benefit both the national and international students. 

Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, stressed the unique characteristics of MAJMC, which encompasses varied media courses that might be useful to all sections of the students. Prof. R. P. Das emphasised the importance of ethics in public journalism and informed that University's MAJMC programmes address media ethics adequately in its curriculum. Prof. S.N. Singh, former Director of SOJNMS, said that SOJNMS is the first School to launch an online MAJMC programme from the Indian public institutions to national and global students. Dr. Srikant Mahapatra, Director RSD stated that IGNOU provides study materials in multiple media formats to all the students. Digital and online mode of education is yet another milestone of SOJNMS. Prof. J K Srivastava, Director, International Division, addressed that the MAJMC programme is futuristic and gives industry-oriented media training to the students. 

Programme Coordinator Dr. K S Arul Selvan gave an overview of the MAJMC online programme, its importance in the national and global contexts. Dr. O P Dewal welcomed the dignities and participants. Dr. Ramesh Yadava and Dr. Amit Kumar moderated the entire programme. Ms Padmini Jain gave the vote of thanks.
