IGNOU Launches INTERNSHIP PORTAL for Library & Information Science (BLIS & MLIS) Learners

On 11th October 2022, the Faculty of Library & Information Science, School of Social Sciences (SOSS) had its inaugural programme of the internship portal, held in virtual mode.

 
 

New Delhi. : On 11th October 2022, the Faculty of Library & Information Science, School of Social Sciences (SOSS) had its inaugural programme of the internship portal, held in virtual mode. The inaugural programme started with a welcome address by Prof.Suhas Shetgovekar, Director, SOSS. Prof.Jaideep Sharma, in his introductory speech on the internship portal comprehensively explained the objectives behind the inclusion of internship as part of BLIS & MLIS Programmes which is designed keeping in view of the requirements of the National Educational Policy 2020 (NEP), where skilled based education is given emphasis. He further stated that by introducing internship as part of the LIS programmes, the student would be able to have a real time experience, which in turn will be much beneficial to them as they enter the profession. He also elaborated that through this portal, the learners can now have easy access for applying for internship in their respective regions without facing any hurdles.

 
Prof.Uma Kanjilal, Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) in her speech appreciated the faculty for initiating such a challenging yet enriching project for BLIS & MLIS students. She stated that since the portal is meant for all professional programmes, it could be further expanded and be utilized by all the schools which are offering professional programmes. She was also confident that the IGNOU students getting internship exposures to various institutions and organizations would enhance their job employability skills.
 
Dr.U.C.Pandey, Director, Regional Service Division (RSD) appreciated the Faculty’s initiatives and assured to provide his support in this journey through Regional Centres spread across the country. Dr.V.P.Rupam, Additional Director Student Registration Division (SRD), while appreciating the faculty’s initiatives and the efforts of the Samarth Group stressed the relevance of the portal for internship as well as job placement.
 
The Honourable Vice Chancellor of IGNOU Prof.Nageshwar Rao inaugurated the internship portal. While expressing his views on internship, he mentioned that it provides an opportunity for the students to practice their knowledge and skills in the workplace. He further stated that a student given an opportunity for internship is able to contextualize his or her knowledge in the real-life situation. He complimented the School of Social Sciences and the Faculty of LIS for the initiative.
