New Delhi, India, The Indian Air Force (IAF) has released a significant update for the Agniveer Vayu Intake 01/2027 under the Agnipath Scheme. In a move that brings immense relief to thousands of defense aspirants across the country, the IAF has announced a historic change in the eligibility criteria by extending the upper age limit to 22 years. Recognizing the high demand and the technical requirements of the force, the authorities have also decided to reopen the online registration window from March 3, 2026, to March 10, 2026, providing a second chance to those who missed the initial February deadline or who now qualify under the revised age bracket.
To be eligible for this intake, candidates must be unmarried Indian male or female citizens. Under the new guidelines, applicants must have been born between January 1, 2006, and July 1, 2009 (both dates inclusive). For the Science Subjects stream, candidates are required to have passed their Intermediate (10+2) with Mathematics, Physics, and English from an approved board with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks and at least 50% marks in English specifically. Alternatively, holders of a three-year Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Automobile, Computer Science, Instrumentation, or IT) with 50% marks are also eligible. For the Other Than Science Subjects stream, a simple 10+2 pass in any stream with the same 50% aggregate and English requirement is mandatory.
The selection process is rigorous, designed to identify the most capable "Vayu" warriors through a three-phase evaluation. Phase I consists of an online written examination scheduled for March 30 and 31, 2026. This test is bilingual and follows a marking scheme of +1 for correct answers and a penalty of -0.25 for incorrect ones. Candidates who clear the written hurdle move to Phase II, which involves a Physical Fitness Test (PFT) featuring a 1.6 km run (7 minutes for males, 8 minutes for females), followed by push-ups, sit-ups, and squats. This phase also includes Adaptability Tests I and II to ensure candidates can adjust to the military environment. The final stage, Phase III, is a comprehensive medical examination conducted by Air Force medical officers.
The Agniveer Vayu program offers a structured financial package over a four-year tenure. In the first year, recruits receive a customized monthly package of ₹30,000, which scales up to ₹40,000 by the fourth year. A critical component of this scheme is the Corpus Fund, where 30% of the monthly salary is contributed by the individual and matched by the Government of India. Upon completion of the four-year service, Agniveers will receive a one-time Seva Nidhi package of approximately ₹10.04 Lakhs, which is exempt from Income Tax. Additionally, they are provided with a non-contributory life insurance cover of ₹48 Lakhs for the duration of their service.
