Hands on workshop on ‘Assessment of Children with Special Needs’ begins at JMI

He explained in detail about two types of assessments of vision - Clinical Assessment and Functional Assessment.

New Delhi :- A six-day workshop on ‘Assessment of Children with Special Needs’  being organised by the Department of Teacher Training and Non- Non-Formal Education (IASE), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) began today and will conclude on November 23, 2023.

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Jessy Abraham, Department of Teacher Training and Non-Formal Education (IASE). Prof. Abraham gave a brief introduction about the importance of a six-day workshop in the field of special education as well as general education. Dr. Eram Nasir, Mohd. Zuber gave best wishes to senior students who are organising the workshop. 

Dr. Mohd. Faijullah Khan gave a brief introduction about the rights and challenges of children with special needs. He told why the categorization of Disabilities is done and what the reason behind it. He talked about the assessment of Children with Disabilities (Autism, Intellectual Disability, ADHD, etc.).

The 1st keynote speaker Mr. Dr. Sudeep Kumar Dubey, Course Coordinator at Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education, New Delhi gave a lecture on Functional Vision Assessment (FVA). He explained in detail about two types of assessments of vision - Clinical Assessment and Functional Assessment. 

The 2nd keynote speaker, Miss Mangurpreet Kaur, talked about the tool Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC). The test measures several cognitive abilities: measures a range of cognitive abilities, including verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory, processing speed and fluid reasoning. She introduced this test to students and provided practical experience by testing on them.
