New Delhi. : The deadline for submitting fresh and renewal applications under the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the academic year 2024-25 has been extended to 30th September 2024. Eligible students can submit their applications through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), which has been open since 30th June 2024. For this year, selected students must first complete a One-Time Registration (OTR) on the NSP before applying for the scholarship. Detailed FAQs for registration can be accessed here.
About NMMSS:
The NMMSS, implemented by the Department of School Education & Literacy, aims to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections by offering scholarships to prevent dropouts after Class VIII and encourage students to complete their education up to Class XII.
Key Details:
- Scholarship Amount: ₹12,000 per annum per student.
- Eligibility: Students studying in State Government, Government-aided, and local body schools. Parental income should not exceed ₹3.5 lakh per annum. A minimum of 55% marks (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST students) in Class VII is required to qualify for the selection test.
- Scholarship Coverage: The scheme offers 1 lakh new scholarships annually for Class IX students, with continuation through Classes X to XII based on academic performance.
Application Process:
- As of 31st August 2024, 60,321 fresh and 121,834 renewal applications have been successfully submitted on the NSP.
- The scholarship is disbursed directly to students' bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) using the Public Financial Management System (PFMS).
Verification Process:
There are two levels of verification for submitted applications:
- Level-1 (L1): Verification by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO) – Deadline: 15th October 2024.
- Level-2 (L2): Verification by the District Nodal Officer (DNO) – Deadline: 31st October 2024.
Students and institutions are encouraged to complete the submission and verification processes within the stipulated time to avoid any last-minute complications.
