Exhibition of Rare School Books organized in CUH

The Deputy Librarian, Dr. Rajeev Vashistha proposed vote of thanks and Dr. Vinita Malik, Information Scientist anchored the programme. Dr. Vinod Kumar Singh and Mr. Naresh Kumar oriented many students about the utility of the schoolbook archive and their effective use.

Haryana :- PanditDeendayalUpadhyaya Central Library and Department of Teacher Education, Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh organized a two-day exhibition of rare schoolbooks in association with Azim Premji University, Bangalore.  Prof.Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Haryanainaugurated the programme. Prof.Tankeshwar Kumarsaid that this exhibition reminds us that education is a dynamic and ever-evolving force. Let us know how the past has shaped our educational landscape, and what lessons we can learn from it to inform our decisions and policies for the generations yet to come. He appreciated the efforts of the archive team of Azim Premji University led by Prof. Varadrajan Narayanan and also thanked him for facilitating the exhibition at Central University of Haryana for the benefit of teachers and students.

During the exhibition, more than three hundred rare school books were displayed. The books were of both colonial and postcolonial periods from India and other South Asian countries. Prof. Varadrajan Narayananfacilitated the guided tour of the exhibition to the Vice Chancellor and faculty members and Mr. Siddu of Azim Premji Universityfacilitated the guided tour of the exhibition to the students and researchers of Central University of Haryana. Talks on relevant topics concerning text-books were also organised at the exhibition. During the programme, Prof. Sarika Sharma,Dean, School of Education welcomed the book exhibition team and all participants. University Librarian, Dr. Santosh. C.H.expressed his views regarding the relevance of rare text books in the context of textbook writing and research. He also introduced the speakers.

Prof. Varadrajan Narayanan delivered an introductory talk on the schoolbook archive developed by Azim Premji University. Mr. Siddushowcased online schoolbooks archive project. Dr. Sarika Sharma shared her perspectives and experiences about textbook writing and reading. Prof. Nandkishor spoke on ways to incorporate the components of Indian knowledge systemin the textbooks. During the programme, Prof. Parmod Kumar, Prof. Dinesh Chahal, Prof. Gaurav Singh, and other faculty members from different Departments had participated. More than two hundred students and researchers took active part in the event.
