New Delhi :- The Centre for Theoretical Physics (CTP), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) proudly celebrated National Science Day on February 28th with a vibrant program attended by esteemed scientific community members. The event, held at the CTP Seminar Hall, saw an enthusiastic participation of faculty members, PhD scholars, and MSc students from various universities. CTP, JMI honoured the occasion with insightful talks and engaging discussions this year.
National Science Day holds a significant place in the hearts of scientists and enthusiasts alike as it marks the discovery by Sir C.V. Raman on this day in 1928 – the Raman Effect – a groundbreaking achievement that revolutionized the field of physics and garnered India its first Nobel Prize in Science. This discovery not only brought international recognition to Indian science but also marked a significant milestone in the advancement of physics globally.
The event commenced with an introductory address by the Director of CTP, Prof. Ghosh, who emphasized the day's importance and set the tone for the following enlightening sessions. He mentioned that National Science Day is crucial in promoting scientific temper and fostering a culture of curiosity, inquiry, and critical thinking among the populace. It provides an opportunity to engage with the public, particularly the youth, and inspire them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This interactive session, held from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, offered a glimpse into the forefront of scientific exploration.

Dr. Mayukh Raj Gangopadhyay's Talk on Primordial Black Holes (PBHs) and Gravitational Waves (GWs): Renowned scientist Dr. Mayukh Raj Gangopadhyay from CCSP, SGT University, Gurugram, delivered an enlightening talk exploring the profound implications of Primordial Black Holes and Gravitational Waves in understanding the nascent universe. His session, held from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, captivated the audience with its depth and relevance.
2. Prof. Anjan A Sen's Talk on the Story of the Dark Universe: Concluding the event on a thought-provoking note, Prof. Anjan A Sen from CTP, JMI, delved into the enigmatic realm of the Dark Universe. From dark matter to dark energy, his presentation from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm shed light on the mysteries that continue to intrigue and inspire scientists worldwide.
