New Delhi. : The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has announced a major revamp of its syllabus for Classes KG to 8, which will be implemented from the academic year 2027–28. The new curriculum will move away from rote learning and adopt an activity-based, experiential model designed to strengthen real-world skills.
Focus on Holistic and Practical Learning
CISCE Chairman Joseph Emmanuel, speaking at an interschool debating competition in Bengaluru, said the updated framework is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) and global skill requirements.
“We are coming up with a new plan for kindergarten to Class 8. This will be introduced along with the NEP and mapped with global skill sets and competition competencies,” he explained.
The revised syllabus will encourage interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches, helping children apply classroom concepts to practical situations. Teachers will be trained in activity-driven methods to make learning more interactive and engaging.
Alignment with NCERT and Digital Support
The new curriculum will also align with the standards of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). To aid this shift, CISCE will launch a dedicated digital platform to support academics, extracurricular activities, and environmental education.
Expansion and Upcoming Announcements
CISCE also plans to establish a regional office in Bengaluru, which has nearly 400 affiliated schools. Meanwhile, students and parents can expect the release of Class 10 and Class 12 board exam timetables soon, as the Council prepares to follow CBSE in announcing schedules.
