New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a directive to all affiliated schools, making it mandatory to adhere strictly to deadlines for direct admissions and subject change requests in Classes 10 and 12 for the 2025–26 academic session. The board has clarified that no relaxation will be granted beyond the notified cut-off dates.

- Last date: August 31, 2025
- Schools must compile all cases with supporting documents and submit them to their respective regional offices by September 2, 2025.
- Regional offices must complete approvals by September 15, 2025.
- Exception: Direct admissions after August 31 will be considered only in cases involving transfers of government employees, and such cases must reach the regional office within two days of admission.
Subject Changes:
- Last date to apply: August 31, 2025
- Compiled lists with documents must be sent to regional offices by September 2, 2025, with final approvals due by September 15, 2025.
New Regional Offices
From September 1, 2025, four new CBSE regional offices will start functioning. Until then, schools must continue sending cases to the existing parent regional offices.
Additionally, three new sub-regional offices have been created under the Guwahati Regional Office at Agartala, Itanagar, and Gangtok. For the 2025–26 session, these will continue to route all cases through Guwahati.
Strict Instructions to Schools
The CBSE has emphasized that schools must not entertain any direct admission or subject change requests after August 31, 2025. The board underlined that adhering to deadlines will help ensure smooth conduct of board examinations, which involve nearly 35 lakh students across India and abroad every year.
With this notification, CBSE aims to streamline processes, reduce last-minute delays, and maintain uniformity in managing admissions and subject changes across all affiliated schools.
