CBSE Issues Guidelines for Conducting Practical Exams During Supplementary Examination 2025

New Delhi, July 2, 2025:
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released detailed guidelines for the conduct of practical examinations alongside the Supplementary Examination 2025. As per the CBSE’s Scheme of Studies and Examination Bye-Laws, practical exams are mandatory for two categories of students:

  1. Students placed in the Compartment category due to Repeat in Practical (RP).

  2. Students placed in the Compartment category due to Repeat in Theory and Practical Both (RB).

Key Guidelines:

For Class XII Students:

  • Students marked as RP (Repeat in Practical) are required to appear only in the practical examination. Their previously secured theory marks will be carried forward.

  • These students will take their practicals during the Supplementary Examination period.

For Class X Students:

  • Students under the RB (Repeat in Theory and Practical) category must appear for both theory and practical examinations.

  • If a student was absent for the Internal Assessment earlier, they will be awarded pro-rata marks based on theory marks obtained in the supplementary exam. No new Internal Assessments will be conducted, as they are part of the year-long evaluation process.

Schedule and Venues:

  • Practical exams will be held from July 10 to July 15, 2025.

  • Regular students will take practicals at their respective schools.

  • Private candidates will appear at the examination centres designated for theory exams. If any centre lacks facilities for a particular subject, CBSE Regional Offices will arrange for an alternative nearby centre.

Appointment of Examiners:

  • External examiners for Class XII will be appointed by the CBSE Regional Offices.

  • Internal examiners will be designated by the school principal or centre superintendent from the teaching staff.

Marking and Uploading:

  • Practical answer books provided by the Regional Offices must be used.

  • Marks are to be uploaded on the same day the exam is conducted. Once uploaded, these marks will be considered final and no changes will be entertained.

Instructions for Students:

  • Students must report to their schools or exam centres by July 7, 2025, with a copy of their result/mark sheet and admit card.

  • They should confirm the date and time of their practical exam and report to the venue on schedule.

Responsibilities of Schools and Exam Centres:

  • Prepare a subject-wise list of all students scheduled for practical exams.

  • Coordinate with the Regional Office for the appointment of external examiners—schools must not appoint external examiners on their own.

  • Schedule practical exams considering examiner availability and the supplementary theory exams timetable.

  • Inform students in advance and keep the Regional Office updated on the exam plan.

Role of CBSE Regional Offices:

  • Compile centre-wise and subject-wise lists of students needing practical exams.

  • Ensure timely appointment of external examiners and smooth conduct of exams.

  • Monitor prompt uploading of marks and ensure that practical answer books are returned to the Regional Office without delay.

CBSE urges all students, schools, and examination centres to strictly follow these instructions to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the practical exams during the Supplementary Examination 2025.
