CBSE Announces Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav 2025 – Celebrate India’s Linguistic Diversity (4–11 Dec)

CBSE launches “Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav 2025” from 4–11 December to honour Subramania Bharati and promote multilingual cultural activities across its affiliated schools. Theme: “Many Languages, One Emotion”.

CBSE Announces Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav 2025 — Celebrate India’s Linguistic Diversity (4–11 Dec)   

New Delhi. ; The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued Circular Acad‑90/2025 launching “Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav 2025”, a week‑long festival celebrating India’s rich linguistic diversity. The event will be observed from 4 December to 11 December 2025, coinciding with the birth anniversary of the poet‑philosopher Subramania Bharati.

Theme and Objective 

CBSE has announced the festival theme as “Many Languages, One Emotion”, emphasising unity in diversity through multilingual cultural experiences. The initiative aims to:   

  • Promote appreciation for India’s languages and literary traditions
  • Encourage learning and use of additional Indian languages in schools
  • Foster inclusive, culturally rooted education among students     

Suggested Activities for Schools     

The circular includes a concept note and an annexure of suggested activities that schools can adapt to local contexts. Recommended initiatives include:       

  • Language clubs and classroom language‑heritage display

  • Multilingual poetry recitals, storytelling sessions, and folk‑music performances    

  • Podcasts, micro‑documentaries and language‑themed theatre by students

  • Proverb exchanges, collaborative story chains, and a culminating Bhasha Mela (Language Fair     

  •  

Participation and Inclusivity     

CBSE has urged all affiliated schools to actively involve students, teachers, parents and community members, making the celebrations inclusive and representative of regional linguistic traditions. Schools are free to choose activities from the annexure and tailor them according to age groups and local languages.

     With increasing emphasis on holistic and culturally responsive education, the festival aligns with broader goals of preserving intangible cultural heritage and promoting multilingualism in classrooms. By encouraging students to explore languages beyond the medium of instruction, CBSE aims to strengthen cultural empathy and linguistic confidence among young learners.
