New Delhi. ; The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has advised all its affiliated schools to actively implement Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya (ReP), a free national digital library of non-academic books launched by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education.
The initiative aims to promote joyful reading, digital literacy, and lifelong learning among students in line with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya has been thoughtfully structured into four age-appropriate categories—3–8 years, 8–11 years, 11–14 years, and 14+ years—ensuring developmentally suitable content for learners at every stage.
Currently, the digital library hosts over 5,500 non-academic titles sourced from more than 200 publishers and is available in 23 Indian languages, making it one of the most inclusive reading platforms for school students. The platform is accessible through web, Android, and iOS applications and has been developed and implemented by the National Book Trust (NBT) under the aegis of the Ministry of Education.
CBSE has requested schools to leverage their ICT and smart classroom infrastructure to register students on the Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya platform and integrate its use into regular learning activities. Teachers have also been encouraged to download and familiarise themselves with the application to motivate students towards anytime, anywhere reading.
In the official communication, Praggya M. Singh, Professor and Director (Academics), CBSE, highlighted that Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya is envisioned as a tool to nurture a lifelong love for reading, while also promoting India’s rich cultural and literary heritage. She emphasised that the active support of schools and teachers is essential to ensure meaningful learning outcomes through this initiative.
The move marks a significant step towards strengthening reading habits, digital inclusion, and holistic education across CBSE-affiliated schools nationwide.
