New Delhi: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called for significant reforms to bring India’s higher education system in line with global standards. Speaking at the Vice Chancellors’ Conclave in New Delhi, the minister emphasised the need for universities to modernise teaching methods and strengthen academic quality to compete internationally.
He urged higher education institutions to revise curricula and integrate emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and machine learning into academic programmes. The minister highlighted that adopting these technologies and encouraging innovation will help universities remain relevant in a rapidly evolving global knowledge economy.
Referring to the National Education Policy 2020, Goyal noted that the policy was developed after extensive consultation and provides a framework for transforming India’s education system. He also stressed the importance of attracting more international students to study in India, with the aim of strengthening India’s position as a global destination for higher education.
