HP govt to consider opening summer closing schools: Rohit Thakur

The final decision of whether or not these schools will re-open will be taken on the basis of requirements.

New Delhi. : The Himachal Pradesh government may consider re-opening summer-closing schools, which were earlier closed due to low enrolment, Education Minister Rohit Thakur told Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday.

The final decision of whether or not these schools will re-open will be taken on the basis of requirements.

Thakur has claimed that only two colleges were opened during four years , but nearly two dozen colleges were opened in the last six months and thousands of posts of teachers are still lying vacant.

Meanwhile, the BJP MLA Randhir Sharma has said that there are several villages where schools need to be set up at the doorstep as parents from those areas are hesitant about sending their children to far-off locations due to issues in road connectivity and also due to the rising trend of drug misuse.
Additionally, BJP MLA Jeet Ram Katwal demanded that the de-notified schools should be reopened. On this issue, Sharma has claimed that Sarkaghat College which has an enrolment of forty students has also been de-notified.

This comes a little after the Himachal Pradesh government de-notified 286 primary and middle schools with zero enrolment of students. “About 3,000 schools in the state are running with one teacher, while 455 schools are running (with teachers) on deputation basis while 12,000 posts of teachers are vacant,” he told reporters.
