Workshop focused on food products made from millet started at CUH

 

Mahendergarh : A five-day workshop has started at Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh from Monday with the aim of developing necessary business models for the development and promotion of quality products to women engaged in the development of food products in rural areas. While inaugurating the workshop focused on Feed Growing India with the Goodness of Bajra products, Vice Chancellor Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar said that the food grains available in India are rich in nutrition and through their proper promotion, they can be developed as a brand. The Vice Chancellor said that through this workshop organized with the joint efforts of Vigyan Bharti, Haryana and Science for Equity, Empowerment & Development (SEED) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, women working in rural areas would definitely get opportunities for remarkable progress in this direction.

                      The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar in his address specifically mentioned the nutritional rich traditional Indian products and said that Bajra is one such product, from which food items made if properly marketed, it has the potential to make a global recognition. While addressing the rural women participated in this workshop, the Vice Chancellor said that through this event, efforts will be made to improve their products and develop a business model for them. While referring to the usefulness of Indian food grains, Vice President of Vigyan Bharti Haryana, Prof. SunitaShrivastava said that millet has been a nutritious food grain since time immemorial and if proper marketing of its products is done, they can be recognized globally. Dr. Ramesh Kumar of KrishiVigyan Kendra, Hisar, present as an expert speaker in the program, threw light in detail on the usefulness of millet in human diet and told how it can be used to get the necessary nutrients for the body.

                        Program coordinator Dr. SavitaBudhwaar said that rural women and farmers would be benefited by the promotion of traditional and value-added delicacies made from millet. Program co-convener Prof. Suneel Kumar highlighted the technology for extending the shelf life of value added products manufactured from millet. Dean Research of the University Prof. NeelamSangwan described millet as a therapeutic food. Member of the organizing committee of the program Prof. Sunil Kumar, Dr. SavitaBudhwaar, Dr. PoonamYadav of KrishiVigyan Kendra, Mahendragarh, University researchers MeghaJakhar and ManaliChakraborty told that in this five-day workshop various sessions will be organized focusing on process of manufacturing millet products, techniques for increasing the quality, self-established service groups on the working of Bajra and the products made from Bajra. On the occasion of the inaugural session of the program, Dean Research of the University, Prof. NeelamSangwaan, Assistant Professor Dr. SunitaTanwar including teachers and students of various departments were present.
