New Delhi. : The UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (UGC-HRDC), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) and Faculty of Education, JMI jointly started their 3rd (second online) two-week Refresher Course in ‘Teacher Education: Learning Outcomes and Educational Reform- Pedagogy, Assessment and Quality Assurance’ from 4th January - 17th January,2021. Training and skill building of more than 35 teacher educators from different universities and colleges across India will be conducted during the course.
The theme of the Refresher Course is ‘Challenges of Policy Implementation in Teacher Education’. Dr. Sajjad Ahmad, Assistant Professor, Department of Educational Studies and Dr. Ansar Ahmad, Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Training & NFE (IASE), JMI are coordinating the Refresher Course.
Prof. Mohd. Miyan, Former Vice Chancellor, MANUU was the Chief Guest of the inaugural session and Prof. Aejaz Masih, Dean Faculty of Education and Nodal Officer, School of Education under the scheme of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers & Teaching, Ministry of Education chaired the session. Prof. Anisur Rahman, Director, UGC- HRDC, JMI delivered the welcome address.
During the inaugural address Prof. Mohd. Miyan, focussed upon the practicality and underlined the significance of the Refresher Course. He said that the Refresher Course is being organized at the juncture when the planning of implementation of NEP 2020 is rolling throughout the country. He stressed that successful implementation of NEP 2020 is the responsibility of the entire teachers’ fraternity which will collectively make it success. He further emphasized that the NEP 2020 is unique in the sense that it tries to restructure the entire educational system from School Education to Higher Education focusing upon the integrated nature of the Teacher Education Programme.
Under the chair remarks, Prof. Aejaz Masih, focussed upon traditional, conventional, more transformative and more innovative pedagogies which are the need of the hour. He said that what one learns at the training, if that understanding is not modified, re-thought, re- visited or re-formulated to the requirement of existing learning conditions it will be very difficult for the teachers of today to survive since the learners are more exposed to the outer world.
The course coordinator Dr. Sajjad Ahmad outlined the overview of the programme and the engagement of the participants for the next two weeks. The inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Ansar Ahmad.
