JMI organises Special Lecture on ‘Understanding Maulana Azad in Present Times’

 

New Delhi. : Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) today organised a Special Lecture titled  ‘Understanding Maulana Azad in Present Times’ by Prof. S. Irfan Habib, formerly Maulana Azad Chair, National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), on the occasion of National Education Day to commemorate birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.  

Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI chaired the program which was attended by Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Tasneem Fatima, Registrar, Dr. Nazim Hussain Jafri , Prof. Aejaz Masih, Dean, Faculty of Education, other guests, teachers and non teaching staff of the university

.Prof. Nahid Zahoor,Head, IASE,JMI introduced the guest speaker and  Dr Arshad Ikram Ahmad, Head, Department of Educational Studies,JMI conducted the program.

Prof. Habib enlightened the audience with several important and unknown aspects about Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s political & intellectual career, his thinking and his definition of nationalism. He said that mere one lecture is not enough to speak about a towering personality like Maulana Azad.     

During her address the Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar said that National Education Day offers us not only with an opportunity to pay our glowing tribute to Bharat Ratan Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of the independent India but also to make a critical appraisal of our achievements of the past year, and to rededicate ourselves to our missions with a renewed enthusiasm.

Prof. Akhtar further said that today we are performing our twin-responsibilities through our celebration of the National Education Day. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was a founder member of our beloved JMI. Nurtured by such pious souls, their Jamia is now proudly reckoned among top six universities of the nation.  On this auspicious occasion Jamia’s very recent and glowing achievement becomes the most suitable and reverent homage to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, an eminent name to reckon with great world personalities.

The Vice Chancellor ended her address with an appeal to the audience to make a resolution to dedicate afresh to the great missions of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and remain his worthy followers in every respect for helping Jamia go far beyond its existing frontiers.

A book exhibition on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was also inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor and Prof. S. Irfan Habib before the start of the lecture at the Centre for Information and Technology, JMI.  

The program ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Aejaz Masih, Dean, Faculty of Education,JMI
