New Delhi. : Dr. Ufana Riaz, Assistant Professor at Department of Chemistry, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) has been awarded with “NESA Green Technology Innovation Award 2021” for her significant contribution to the field of Green Synthesis of technologically important materials. The Award Ceremony was held in hybrid mode on 12th- 13th December,2021 at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneshwar, Odisha during the International Conference on Waste Management and Sustainable Development (WMSD) by the National Environmental Science Academy (NESA) in collaboration with Bhubaneswar City Knowledge Innovation Cluster (BKIC).

Several distinguished luminaries were present during the two day conference: Prof. Suddhasatwa Basu, Director, CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology, Dr. Mrutyunjay Suar, Director General (R&D), KIIT and Chairman, Bhubaneswar City Knowledge Innovation Cluster, Prof. Javed Ahmed, President, NESA, Dr. B. N. Sahoo, Chief General Manager, Oil India Limited and Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT and KISS.

Dr. Ufana Riaz has been working on the synthesis of nanostructured polymeric materials via green route since 2008. She has innovatively used microwave synthesis for solid state polymerization to design composite materials with remarkable opto-electronic properties by completely avoiding any toxic solvent. Her notable contribution is in using these hybrid materials for the rapid photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in waste water remediation with minimum production of toxic by-products. By now she has published more than 100 research papers in the field of green technology.
