Getting A++ grade was a result of team effort: Prof. Najma Akhtar

New Delhi. : Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar today addressed a press conference to share the details of A++ grade given by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to the university. This is the highest and most coveted grade given by the NAAC to an institution based on various parameters, including research, infrastructure, learning resources, evaluation, innovation & governance through stringent assessment method.

Prof. Akhtar said that this milestone will make a big difference as it will open new avenues for the university. This will help the varsity to get many national and international research projects. The belief of the world JMI will increase significantly, she added.

“We were expecting such result as we all worked day and night as a team to achieve this despite facing various challenges like pandemic and other disturbances. It also strengthens the belief that even a minority institution can also achieve highest ranking if it puts in hard work with a goal in mind” said the Vice Chancellor.

While elaborating about the assessment process the Vice Chancellor said that we had submitted all documents as evidence to show the academic progress of the university that was followed by a visit of a seven-member NAAC PEER TEAM to the university for three days (6-8 December,2021) to verify what we have claimed.

Even during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have managed to reach out to our students. We first trained our teachers for online teaching through various Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) and organized national and international webinars for teachers and students. We ensured that placements, exams and other mandatory activities went off smoothly for the benefit of students.

Prof. Akhtar appealed to all the teaching members and employees of the university to keep contributing to the growth of the institution to achieve new heights.

The Vice Chancellor further said that based on the current need the university has recently opened 4 new departments for which the UGC has sanctioned 28 new teaching posts. We plan to start several new academic programmes and develop our curriculum keeping in mind the requirements of the New Education Policy (NEP) in consultation with the industry to increase the employability prospect of our students.

Lauding the efforts by the university to promote gender-equity, the Vice Chancellor said that it promotes women in leadership roles and it is the first university in the country to have women as its Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor and Finance Officer besides several women Deans and HoDs. “We plan to further improve the gender ratio among students in near future” said Prof. Akhtar.
