IGNOU Launches Post Graduate Diploma (DIGITAL MEDIA) (PGDIDM) from July, 2021 Session


New Delhi. : School of Journalism and New Media Studies (SOJNMS) of IGNOU has launched the PG Diploma in Digital Media (PGDIDM) through Open and Distance Mode. The national virtual launch was done through a virtual meeting on 23rd July, 2021 made available via YouTube - https://youtu.be/Kbu4u9fpp9w and IGNOU's FB page (https://www.facebook.com/OfficialPageIGNOU).

The launch was attended by prominent media industry experts; Ms. Mahalakshmi Jayaram, Senior Deputy Editor, The Hindu, Chennai, Dr. P N Vasanti, Director General, Center for Media Studies, Delhi, and Prof. B P Sanjay, Former Vice Chancellor, Central University of Tamilnadu among others. The experts spoke on the growth of Digital Media with the Mobile and Internet penetration growing in the country and how the media has changed over the years with the technology. 

Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU in his presidential address highlighted the role of Digital Media in today's world. Complimenting the School for the launch of the programme, hee said that the programme imparts skills and provides employment which is in tune with the New Education Policy.

Dr. K.S. Arul Selvan, Programme Coordinator, PGDIDM, SOJNMS gave a snapshot of the programme launched providing the introduction of the programme.

Dr. Srikant Mohapatra, Director, Regional Services Division & EMPC, Prof. R.P. Das, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sumitra Kukreti, Pro-Vice Chancellor, and Prof. Satyakam, Pro-Vice Chancellor and other key-officials were also present at the launch. They congratulated the school for launching a relevant programme which is in consonance with the Digital India Programme of Government of India. 

The launch programme was moderated by Dr. Ramesh Yadav, SOJNMS, IGNOU and Dr. Amit Kumar, SOJNMS, IGNOU proposed the vote-of-thanks.

The PG Diploma in Digital Media aims to facilitate learners on three specific domains of the emerging Information and Communication Technology-enabled new media platforms - conceptual framework on digital media, online and digital journalism practices and internet research techniques through big data analytics and data mining.

In addition to that, this programme explores the role of digital media literacy in the empowerment processes. It aims to address the interrelationship between digital media and society from the Indian context and the emergence of social media, Information and Communication Technology for development, and issues of digital inequality. Since every sphere of professional work has been integrated with digital technology, learners with 
advanced knowledge of handling technology-enabled environments enhance their employability.
