Chandigarh Educational Institutions to remain closed till May 31, 2021

CHANDIGARH: Union Territory of Chandigarh has announced closure of all educational institution including schools, colleges, till May end.Apart from this, coaching institutes and public libraries will also remain closed. However, online teaching can continue.The order has been issued by the Advisor-cum-Chairperson, State Disaster Management Authority, due to the surge in Covid-19 cases.
"Keeping in view surge in Covid-19 cases and orders issued by the Advisor-cum-chairperson, State Disaster Management Authority, UT Chandigarh, it has been decided that all the educational institutions in UT Chandigarh shall remain closed till 31.05.2021. All the public libraries shall also remain closed for public/members till 31.05.2021. All the coaching institutes shall also remain closed till 31.05.2021. However, online coaching may continue. Govt. and Govt. Aided Schools will be closed for Summer Vacations from 10.05.2021 to 08.06.2021." read a notice by Directorate of Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration.
Earlier, the UT educational department had announced summer vacations for government and government-aided schools from May 10, 2021 to June 8, 2021. According to the spokesperson, this time even the teachers will be given the needed vacation and there will be no online classes. However, the Principal, teaching and non-teaching staff can come to the school if necessary, but with only 50% of total capacity.
Chandigarh recorded 890 new Covid cases matching its all time high reported on 3 May, 2021. There have been 8 related deaths, taking the total tally to 48,442 cases, 549 deaths and 39,388 recoveries (81.37%). The city now has 8,505 active cases.
