JMI commemorates 124th Birth Anniversary of Late Dr. Zakir Husain

New Delhi. Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) today commemorated 124th Birth Anniversary of Late Dr. Zakir Husain, a recipient of Bharat Ratna, 3rd President of the country and 3rd Vice Chancellor of the JMI by organising a prayer meet at his mausoleum located on the university campus. Officials of the university and family members of Dr Zakir Husain attended the function.

An exhibition on ‘Life and Works of Dr. Zakir Husain’ was also organised by JMI’s Dr. Zakir Husain Central Library in collaboration with Prem Chand Archives and Literary Centre at the library. The exhibition shall be on view till 15th February, 2021.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Ibraheem, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology in the presence of Prof. Mahtab Alam, Dean Student’s Welfare(DSW), Dr. Tariq Ashraf, University Librarian, Prof. Sabiha Zaidi, Director Jamia’s Premchand Archives and Literary Centre, other guests and staff.

Important photographs depicting different stages of Dr Zakir Husain’s life, his contribution as Vice Chancellor of JMI and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), as an educationist and social scientist has been put up on display. Books showcasing his literary contribution including his PhD theses, his speeches, letters etc have also been displayed.

In her message to the Jamia fraternity on Dr Zakir Husain’s birth anniversary Prof Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI said “His great services and noble contributions to this university are inestimable. An educationist par excellence, he raised the stature of JMI by virtue of his intensity of his rare vision, remarkable conviction and profound interest in the welfare of the university, community and nation”.

On the occasion of his 124th Birth Anniversary, we deem it our noble duty to remember him with veneration, and pay our deep respect to him, Prof. Akhtar said.
