Punjabi University VC resigns, CM accepts

Patiala, November 23: Four days ago, Vice Chancellor Dr BS Ghuman of Punjabi University signed his resignation letter which has now been accepted by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. 

Ghuman has signed his resignation due to non-release of grants and funds by the state government.

The recommendations for appointing an officiating or a regular VC will be decided upon after getting a formal approval from the Governor’s office.

BS Ghuman is an Indian academic and an academic instructor who had served as VC of Punjabi University, Patiala since August 14, 2017. He is an internationally known researcher and had recently received Paul H. Appleby award for contribution in the field of public administration. 

Ghuman had taken keen interest in the overall development of the university and carried out various initiatives such as improving research standards, starting the new academic programmes and specialized centres, MoU with foreign universities, securing increased grants from Punjab Government and MHRD besides curbing wasteful expenditure. He had taken many initiatives to uplift the university in all spheres.
