World Environment Day celebrated at CUH

The Department of Environmental Studies reiterated its commitment to promoting environmental awareness and sustainability through such initiatives.

Haryana :- The Department of Environmental Studies, Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh marked World Environment Day with a series of impactful events, emphasizing the theme of "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience."The celebrations commenced with a plantation drive at the Asima Chatterjee Girls Hostel, conducted in collaboration with the Et Viridi Foundation. Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Faculty members, students, and volunteers enthusiastically participated in planting a variety of saplings, contributing to the campus’s green cover and promoting environmental consciousness among the University community.

Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar initiated the series of events by planting tree and said this day is celebrated to raise awareness and promote environmental conservation among the youth so that they can contribute to conserve environment for the future generations. He also added that biodiversity plays major role in maintaining the ecosystem and helpful in reducing the temperature. Further, he said that a healthy environment is one that is sustainable for a long period of time. It is the source of life for everyone. 

Following the plantation drive, an expert lecture was delivered by Dr. Pritam Sangwan, Scientist E from DRDO, New Delhi. Dr. Sangwan, a distinguished expert in environmental science, provided deep insights into the pressing issues of land degradation, the challenges posed by desertification, and strategies to enhance drought resilience. Prof. Neelam Sangwan, Dean Research mentioned that the environment plays a pivotal role in the existence and development of all living things on earth and, above all, in the daily life of mankind.

Dr. Mona Sharma, Head of the Department and Convener of the event mentioned to stop polluting and damaging the environment and let's make a commitment to work hard to make Earth a greener and healthier place to live in honour of World Environment Day and give our future generations a chance to live beautiful lives in a healthier and happier environmentin their welcome address.

The celebration of World Environment Day served as a reminder of the crucial role that educational institutions play in fostering environmental stewardship and preparing future generations to tackle ecological challenges.On the occasion, Prof. Surender Singh, Dr. Anita Singh, Dr. Dushyant Kumar, Dr. Vikram Kumar, Dr. Smita, Dr. Bhupendra Kumar, Dr. Kheraj, Dr. C.M. Meena, research scholars, students and other faculty members were present. Dr. Anoop Yadav, coordinator of the event proposed the vote of thanks.
