UGC NET 2026 Dates Published by NTA
NTA has published the first dates for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) 2026. These dates open a new cycle for the recruitment and eligibility process of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professorship in Indian universities. UGC NET is conducted twice a year, in June and December, and confers eligibility for a teaching post and a doctoral fellowship in Central and State Universities. - There are 83 subjects.
- There are Two Papers conducted in a single session.
- Paper I is General Teaching and Research Aptitude and Paper II is a subject-specific paper.
- It is a computer-based Test (CBT).
- The Test is conducted in the exam centres in India.
- The Test lasts 3 hours with no breaks.
To be eligible, a candidate should have a Master’s degree or equivalent degree with 55% marks (50% marks for reserved categories) from a recognised university. Final-year postgraduate students can also apply provisionally. Eligibility will be verified when the results are declared.
Application and Registration Details with Exam Structure Overview
The UGC NET 2026 application window will open soon with the official exam notification now available. With internet traffic and speed causing transactions to be delayed the last few days, applicants are advised to submit their applications as soon as possible. Users should prepare for application payment to be made via Net Banking, UPI, Credit/Debit Card.

UGC NET Paper I has 50 questions for 100 marks. Paper I assesses a candidate's aptitude for research, data interpretation, and comprehension. Paper II has 100 questions worth 200 marks, covering the candidate's selected subject. There is no negative marking, hence all candidates can attempt all questions.
