Madhya Pradesh: The MP High Court has sought a response from the state government after a PIL stated that there are 1,895 government schools that have been functioning without a single teacher, based on findings from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report.
The report revealed that 1,379 primary schools and 479 middle schools have no teachers and over 1.5 lakh teaching posts remain vacant across the state’s government schools. It also pointed to major issues in teacher deployment, with thousands of schools facing staff shortages and some schools having teachers despite no enrolled students.
The PIL further states the poor infrastructure in government schools, including the lack of toilets, electricity, boundary walls, and computer facilities. Taking note of the findings, the High Court has directed the state government to explain the steps being taken to address teacher shortages and improve school infrastructure. In addition to these, allegations of administrative mismanagement and improper deployment of education department officials have also been raised in the petition. The matter is expected to have significant implications for public school education and policy reforms in Madhya Pradesh.
