New Delhi: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced the addition of 614 new seats in the second round of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024. The updated seat details can be accessed on the official MCC website — mcc.nic.in/ug-medical-counselling.
Of the newly added seats, seven are distributed across five medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh, another seven in four colleges in Maharashtra, and 600 seats in eight colleges in Telangana. Notably, while the seats in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra are open to all genders, 50% of the seats in Telangana are reserved for female candidates.
In addition to the new seats, MCC has also notified a total of 6,947 virtual vacancies for MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing admissions in the second round. These vacancies span various states and Union Territories, including West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Punjab, Puducherry, Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Delhi (NCT), Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Bihar, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Moreover, MCC announced on September 7 that four institutions have been granted 'Deemed to be University' status by the UGC. As per the Supreme Court's directives in the case Dar-Us-Slam Educational Trust & Ors. vs. Medical Council of India & Ors., the seats of these colleges will now be included in the seat matrix for Round 2 of the UG Counselling 2024. The colleges are:
Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad (200 seats)
Malla Reddy Medical College for Women, Hyderabad (200 seats)
Malla Reddy Institute of Dental Sciences, Hyderabad (100 seats)
Malla Reddy Dental College for Women, Hyderabad (100 seats)
These additions aim to benefit a larger pool of candidates in the ongoing NEET UG 2024 counselling process.
