Nagpur: The Maharashtra government is planning to bring a law to register and regulate private tuition classes following complaints about high and arbitrary fees.
School Education Minister Dada Bhuse informed the Assembly that a draft law for the registration and regulation of private tuition classes is being prepared.
The proposed law is being developed using inputs from a Bombay High Court order, a Supreme Court of India directive, and guidelines from the Union education department. It also considers suggestions from the Maharashtra education department and rules followed in other states.
The issue was raised by MLA Ramdas Masram, who pointed out that many tuition classes are operating without proper registration or approval. He called for government action to control such centres.
The government said the new law aims to bring these private coaching classes under a proper system and address complaints related to fees and functioning.
However, details such as when the law will be introduced, how it will be implemented, and what penalties will be imposed have not yet been announced.
Officials also did not specify how student complaints will be handled under the new system.
