New Delhi. ; The MSc Banking and Financial Analytics (MSc BFA) programme at the Department of Economics, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has successfully attained 100 percent internship placements for its 5th batch this year. All students from the MSc BFA 4th semester (2003-2025 batch) have obtained internships with esteemed corporate organizations, including Wipro, Jodo Analytics, Fincart, xi tech, Finlatics, Finagg, Coforg Smart Serve Limited, Know Data and the nationalized bank, Indian Bank Ltd.
The MSc BFA is a two-year Masters programme offered by the Department of Economics at JMI from 2019. The curriculum is meticulously designed to meet the evolving demands of the analytics industry. The course is focused on 360-degree skilling of students for the analytics Industry. In addition to learning applied finance and advanced statistics, students are trained in using softwares like R, Python, Stata, SQL, PowerBI for data management, visualization and quantitative modeling. Students are also trained in modern data science tools such as machine learning and AI. Consequently, it has become one of the most sought-after courses for employers and students in a very short span of time.
With the objective of providing industry exposure, the entire 4th semester of the course is devoted to industry internship/capstone projects so that course participants can fine tune their skills acquired in the classroom and make themselves industry ready. Rigorous training during the course, an industry aligned syllabus and a blend of analytics and coding have gone a long way in helping students achieve nearly 100 percent internship and placement in reputed companies, said Prof. Asheref Illiyan, Head of the Department of Economics, JMI. For promotion of placements, corporate lecture series by experienced executives of companies, industry visits by students, among others efforts, were initiated during this academic year, highlighted Dr. Vasim Akram, Coordinator of the MSc BFA course.
Prof. Illiyan expressed his sincere gratitude to Prof. Mazhar Asif, Vice Chancellor, JMI and Prof. Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, JMI for their unwavering support and encouragement to the course and the department making this achievement possible.
