New Delhi. : The student chapters of the professional technical societies, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), organized a Technical Festival “Celestra-2025” on February 19, 2025 to commemorate India’s goal for Viksat Bharat@2047. Celestra serves as a dynamic platform that brings together innovative minds, aspiring engineers, and industry professionals to engage in knowledge sharing, competitions, and hands-on technical experiences.
The event was inaugurated by Prof Mini Thomas, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, JMI. She emphasized the significance of students in Engineering becoming members of international professional societies. Such membership offers a vast array of industry-related information, opportunities for networking and volunteering with like-minded individuals, and valuable guidance throughout their professional careers.
The distinguished Guest of Honor of the event was Mr Saurabh Dalela, Director ICAT, a division of the National Automotive Board (NAB), which operates as an autonomous entity under the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI). In his keynote address, Mr Dalela emphasized that the power of artificial intelligence(AI) lies within humanity’s grasp, urging society to advance and embrace this technology rather than fearing it as a threat to employment opportunities. He inspired the students by highlighting that the collective potential of India’s youth will enable them to make significant contributions to the nation’s development and enhance India’s GDP.
The Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Prof Z Mallick welcomed the faculty members and students to the event and further emphasised the importance of professional societies in the present scenario.
The fest had 14 technical competitions, such as Product Selling, Poster making on “Smart Manifesting and Industry 4.0”, AI Image Generation, Technical Treasure Hunt, Jamia has got Latent, Technical Quiz, Robocar, etc. Students, not only from the Faculty of Engineering & Technology but the whole University, participated in all the events.
The Fest was coordinated by Prof Sabah Khan from ASME and Dr Mohd Javed from SAE. Prof Khan extended a warm welcome to all attendees, promising a day brimming with enjoyment and enthusiasm. She urged the newcomers to join societies that piqued their interest, highlighting that nearly all technical societies embrace a multi-disciplinary approach.
The student heads of ASME and SAE, Aqsa Mateen and Zeeshan Hashmi, respectively, along with their team members Areeb, Zoya, Shakeela, Azmat and Fiza Moin dedicated significant efforts alongside their society members to ensure the success of the festival.
The certificates of participation and prizes were awarded to the competition winners during the valedictory session, which was presided over by Mr. Parneet Singh. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Mohd Javed.
