New Delhi: The Department of Sociology, Jamia Milia Islamia University(JMI) organized a lecture titled “Ambedkar, Dewey and the Evolution of Pragmatism in India” on 25 April 2023. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Scott  R. Stroud from the Department of Communication Studies, University of Texas, Austin.

Prof. Stroud has released a book recently with the same theme. He presented the impact that John Dewey, Ambedkar’s teacher at Columbia University, had on him and how Ambedkar reimagined Dewey’s pragmatism to apply it to his academic as well as political life. Stroud highlighted the points where Ambedkar differed from Dewey and how he approached challenges in India.

The lecture concluded with a Q and A session and Mr. Ankush Pal, an undergraduate student of the Department, delivered the vote of thanks.
