JMI organizes Extension Lecture on Policy Reforms and Governance of Higher Education

The event engaged a number of attendees including faculty and students from M.Ed, MAEPA, MA- ECD and PhD Scholars in a dynamic discussion about the Governance, various dynamics of University Governance and how Policy Reforms emerged.

New Delhi :- The Department of Educational Studies (DES), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organised an Extension Lecture on ‘Policy Reforms and Governance of Higher Education’ on January 30th, 2024. The eminent speaker was Prof. Kumar Suresh, Director of Planning and Development and Head of Department of Educational Administration, NIEPA. The Extension Lecture was organised under the guidance of Prof. Arshad Ikram Ahmad, HoD, DES and Prof. Harjeet Kaur Bhatia was the convener.

The event engaged a number of attendees including faculty and students from M.Ed, MAEPA, MA- ECD and PhD Scholars in a dynamic discussion about the Governance, various dynamics of University Governance and how Policy Reforms emerged.

 Prof. Suresh examined the current landscape of Higher Education Policy and their impact on accessibility, affordability and overall quality of education. He emphasised the need for Dialogue and dialogic education highlighting the importance of questioning and probing. He reiterated the various Models of University Governance named Bureaucratic, Collegial and Entrepreneurship and connected that with Indian Universities. He also drew attention towards the interplay between state, market and civil society. He also traced the trajectory of University Governance from the 1990s to the NEP 2020.

The engaging lecture was followed by a lively Q&A Session, where the audience actively participated in probing Dr. Suresh about specific policy challenges and potential solutions. The discussion covered a wide range of topics including Examination Systems, Private-Public Partnership, Philanthropic Approach, German Model of University Governance, NEP 2020, etc.
