JMI organizes Extension Lecture on “China Taiwan Crisis”

:- The Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized an extension lecture on “China-Taiwan Crisis”

 

New Delhi: The Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized an extension lecture on “China-Taiwan Crisis”. The speaker was Prof. Chen Mu-min, National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan and Deputy Representative Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India. Prof. Sujata Ashwarya, Centre for West Asian Studies, JMI chaired the lecture.

The speaker explained how Chinese economic investments in Taiwan marked a watershed in their bilateral ties. China has increased military pressure on Taiwan as witnessed during the recent Chinese live-fire military drills in the Taiwanese strait. Highlighting the multi-dimensional China-Taiwan relations, Prof. Mu-min asserted that Taiwan has begun to downgrade its economic engagements with China. He posited that Taiwan’s future must be decided through democratic means.

The lecture was followed by an engrossing Q & A session. The event concluded with Prof. Reshmi Kazi, Convener delivering the vote of thanks, and expressing her gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, JMI for all the support in organizing the lecture.
